In my previous article, I discussed about certain points or factors to be considered while choosing a preschool for your child. Now let’s consider few more points which parents shall keep in mind while choosing a school or a high school for their children. Your children are the same. However, their growing age and changing times plays an important role to keep in mind extra factors while choosing school or high school. Children are growing all the time; their friends and their surroundings are ever changing along with the ever-changing nature of technology and all-round competition. Due to all these factors, as parents, we need to analyse few more points to ensure that we have chosen right school for our kids
The points that I will discuss below would be just few more additional points to the previous article. You can go back and read my previous article (Link). But I know you will simply relate to my points, and these might help you mould your decision.
1) Consideration of different Education Boards due to shifting nature of Jobs of the parents: Alright, so we have different kinds of boards affiliation. There are State Boards, CBSE (Central Board of secondary Education), ICSE (Indian certificate of secondary education) etc. Nowadays, very few parents opt for schools which are affiliated to State boards as these boards are unique to each state and follow separate syllabus and ranking criteria. Nowadays, most parents are working in corporate cultures or in changeful Government jobs. These days, even corporate employees are travelling across India or overseas along with government officials as well. These travel prospects are surely not for short term, but they call for long term engagement. Henceforth, most parents are opting for CBSE and ICSE Boards because curriculum and syllabus remains the same. So, even if the child is taken out from one school in one location and takes admission in new school in a different location, child will be able to cope up with the ongoing studies in a very short time. This applies to location whether across India or even outside India.
2) Future ready curriculum and co-curricular activities: Now that we are aware that times are all changing and technology is either changing or growing all the time, we would need curriculum which can leverage the changing needs of the children as well as accommodating the prospects. For example- Today more focus is on Cloud infrastructure rather on Hard server storage. Extra co – curricular activities also play a major role in shaping the child’s growth. For example- The child can become a great Rockstar if he would be encouraged to learn music, any child could join Indian cricket team if the child is given proper training around the sports arena, the child can become more creative if he/ she learns the art of creativity and leverages that for Interior decoration/ Fashion Designing/ Home and Furnishings etc. Every child shall be taught to be independent enough post the education so that he/ she can run his/ her livelihood without having many dependencies of external employers and corporates where job recession is a common phenomenon. The seed for doing something on his own and on his own terms and conditions needs to be watered now so that a full-grown fruit is available while he gets mature in future
3) Continuous Improvement: Most important factor to be considered. Please check the curriculum and school culture to ensure that there is always continuous improvement in your children regarding all the growing aspects. Growth should never be stopped rather it should be continuous
4) Children needs and Interests: Extremely important to take your child into confidence what he/ she is going to study for rest of their formative lives. Discuss with them to know their hidden talents and interests and let your child know as to how they can enhance their talents. Always remember to encourage your child to follow their heart/ their passion and their interests because more they will do what they like, more are chances of their success and continuous improvement. This calls for win-win situation for both parents/ children along with teachers as well
5) Faculty Competence: This is also an important part to take care of while choosing a school where you need to know how competent teachers are to make the children’ s future bright. For a simple example to talk about- There would be kids who would be different from each other. Some would be quick learners, some would be shy, some would be too inquisitive, and some would not be like quick learners, and they will need some time to understand something. A teacher should be such who is able to keep pace not only with quick learners but also with all different categories of children as well. That teacher and its competence is the best. Else textbooks and all the information to make the child just pass the exams is all available handy without any hassle.
6) School Culture: Growing school culture and making children grow at all levels is also an excellent point to consider. Always research those schools who make their children participate in all kinds of games and sports on state and national levels for example. If the culture of the school is to grow, then it’s not only school that grows but also the teachers/ kids and parents grow along with them.
I hope you liked these points as well and hopefully they can help you while you would be choosing a school for your kid.
