Points to keep in mind while selecting a preschool for your child

This is most important turning point in every parent’s mind. Where would my kid go? would my kid be safe there? Is he going to discover and achieve some new stuffs? Who will be his friends? How would my child manage without us as Parents? Who would be my child’s teachers and how is it going to impact my child? Would this preschool have a lasting impact on my child’s growth? etc etc etc. All these questions races in your mind once you know that your child is ready to go to a preschool. And I know that parents start their search even well before the child is going to hit the preschool because every parent wants THE BEST for their kid

So come, let’s explore this jointly about important tips that you can keep in mind while selecting a preschool for your cutie pie

1) Location: Location really plays an important factor to keep in mind while sending your kid to pre-school. Most of the parents wants their kids to be near by their house so that dropping them to preschool or picking them could be easier. Also, the kid should not spend most of the time in travelling to consequently get tired and fatigued. These are the formative years of your kid and a time before the actual school. If a kid will understand going to a preschool as the tiring activity, then they will hesitate to go to school because children are very receptive. Also, in case of any adversity or any family emergency, both the children and the parents should be able to easily commute to and from

2) Pocket Friendly: Budget really plays an important role in deciding which preschool you want to send your kid to. Please remember it is not necessary that the preschools who are charging higher amounts of money in form of fees are the most reputed and good preschools and the preschools who charge comparatively less money are not good ones. This is simply a myth and to burst these myths you may need to pay a visit to this preschool uninvited and see how the curriculum is, how are teachers and staff there, is it safe for your child to leave there, what are the amenities, and do they deliver the same as they commit. If all your needs are getting fulfilled even in a preschool which is charging little less than other preschools, I must say that then also, it is worth going for

3) Physical Safety and security: This is the most important factor to be considered while choosing the preschool for your kids. Believe me, the most. Nowadays we are hearing a lot of cases not only for girl molestation but even for boy molestation as well. We will never want our kids to undergo such a torture during their formative years where kids usually don’t understand how to explain their feelings as well. You need to be careful who the staff are. If there is any van assigned from preschool to pick and drop your kids, then you may want to check that there is an attendant present to protect your kids from any mishappening (may be both male and female attendants). Please do pay a silent visit to your kid’s preschool and observe the atmosphere yourselves.

4) Infrastructure Security: I believe this is also the most important factor to be considered while sending your kid to preschool. Most parents forget to pay attention to this but trust me this is also most important. When you visit their preschool, check that there is no construction ongoing, there are no open cables or wires on the floor, there are no piles of garbage or books or files on the ground which can promote tripping and falling, there are no open electric sockets within the reach of your kids, staircases have railings etc. These are little things which must be taken care of because your kid is not the only one kid who is going ro attend preschool but there are others as well. Hence teachers would need to pay attention to all and if anyone is missed out, there would be a huge consequence to be paid

5) Curriculum: Education curriculum even for preschools should be such that it should promote overall growth of the children. They should get at least basics of sharing and caring with other kids, mannerisms to say magical words like Sorry/ Please and Thank You, to be able to deal with separation anxiety that kids initially suffer when they learn to stay away from their parents for the first time for 2-3 hours, how to hold a pencil/ colours for the first time etc. if these little things are also achieved then also the preschool is worth it.

6) Family Status: As I said every parent thinks THE BEST about their kids. It simply means that parents who are sending their kids to the most reputed or the most expensive preschool are doing extra miles for their kids and the ones who are sending their kids to the preschools nearby their houses and comparatively with less fees are not doing enough for their kids. Absolutely No. It completely depends on how much money you have and are willing to spend on their preschools which calls for family status. It will be different for different set of families and is completely okay.

7) Family Tradition: I would say that at some point in time, it may play a role out of parents’ emotions. Few of their parents would love to send their kids to the same preschool where they went years back just to cherish their memories and to have that feeling that all our family started with same preschool. However, now even preschools have undergone a lot of change in their infrastructure and curriculum that time is not the same anymore.

8) Social Feedback Mechanism: This is going to hit the parents while choosing preschools. You may have already seen mothers talking to their fellow mother friends and inquiring about where their kids go and so on. This is very important because via this feedback mechanism you also get confidence if you are deciding to send your kid to the preschool. You would love to know how the teachers are and how do they manage kids while parents are away. You would love to check their books or curriculum before taking any decision.

9) Teaching methods and expertise: This is also an important role-playing factor while deciding for a preschool. As we all know that kids are super receptive and super sensitive and hence such a method should be there whereby children are interested to learn and explore more. Teaching methods should be such where kids can be engaged to learn. Like for example- Nowadays even the paints on the walls of preschools are all coloured depicting some famous story and engaging children to also colour the walls, preschools have different games via which children are engaged to learn numbers and alphabets and colours. Expertise of the teachers should also play a role because no parent wants anyone else hitting their kids and hence teachers should have patience to deal with kids

10) School Credibility: Yet important factor to be considered. If you have heard that any preschool had been in controversies before in the past due to any unavoidable issues and concerns then as per me, it is fruitful to avoid such preschools right beforehand. It is important for the parents and kids mental and emotional wellbeing

11) Communication and Transparency: This is the utmost important factor to be considered for long term association of parents with the child’s preschool. No matter what the issues are in the preschool whether there is any feedback which needs to be discussed with the parents, whether if the child needs to be appreciated, any important information related to curriculum/ teachers and staff change, it should be all communicated to the parents with utmost transparency. With this transparency, Trust gets build up for long run and future recommendations which is a win-win situation both for parents and preschools

12) Amenities: Nowadays, even basic amenities are taken care of if you are sending your kids to preschool. And I can understand that due to rise in extreme temperatures, every parent wants their kids to be in good and safe environment. Basic amenities like good seating arrangement, well designed infrastructure which can promote child’s growth and prospects, May be AC filled classrooms, sometimes availability of good food is also a boon

I hope I have covered all the important factors here. Please let me know if you want me to cover on any other factors if I have left any.
